Cooper University Health Care is planning a major expansion in South Jersey. This week, the health system unveiled plans for a new $300 million healthcare campus in Gloucester Township.
The proposed development will span 39 acres along Route 42 near Gloucester Premium Outlets. At the center of the project is a five-story, 184,000-square-foot multi-specialty outpatient facility.
Once completed, the building will become Cooper’s largest ambulatory care center. In fact, it will surpass the health system’s 166,000-square-foot outpatient facility that opened at Moorestown Mall in 2023.
The project is expected to create approximately 400 healthcare jobs. As a result, the development will expand both healthcare access and employment opportunities throughout the region.
Plans call for a comprehensive range of medical services under one roof. The facility will include an ambulatory surgery center, radiation oncology services, infusion treatment areas, radiology services, and digestive health procedures.
In addition, specialists in cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, and pain management are expected to practice at the campus. Consequently, patients will gain access to a broad spectrum of advanced outpatient care.
Before construction begins, Cooper must secure local and state approvals. Currently, the approval process is expected to extend from late 2026 through fall 2027.
If those approvals are obtained on schedule, construction could begin in mid-2027. Meanwhile, project completion is anticipated by the end of 2028, with patient services expected to commence in spring 2029.
While financing details remain under review, tax-exempt bonds are expected to play a role in funding the development.
Taken together, the project represents one of the largest healthcare investments planned in South Jersey and underscores the growing demand for outpatient medical services across the region.
